There are a lot of mediators in Ontario. As noted elsewhere on this site, anyone can call themselves a mediator – it is an unregulated field. Many mediators are not doing very well – they are just getting by, always looking for the next file. Do you want a mediator or lawyer who is sitting by his or her phone ready to pounce on the next file? Or, are you asking why are they not busy – because they are not good? On the flip side you do not want someone who is so busy that it takes you six months to get in to see them. We are good. Since we are good, we are busy. However, with the team approach that we have here we can get you in and out in a reasonable period of time.
We have a laser focus on resolution. We want to gather the information, have the discussion, write it up and have the two of you move on. I am often amazed when I hear about other mediators.
We promise that we will work hard. We will be efficient. We will listen to both parties. We will bring our wealth of experience to bear on your situation. We will be looking extremely hard for a resolution that works for both parties.
We cover a lot of information during our mediation sessions. I have found that it can be very educational for the parties as we go over a lot of issues and we create the agreement together. We go over many mundane topics but that is also beneficial because it reduces the chances of miscommunication later.
